A man who sleeps rough on the streets of Edinburgh has spoken of the horrific ordeal, as homeless applications in the Capital have risen by 23 per cent - the highest of anywhere in Scotland.Xander, who has slept rough on and off for 10 years, said: "You can get homeless accommodation, but it takes ages to get into for a long period of time. "I present at the council most days, but you don't always get a space.

The last place I got, I lasted there a month but had to leave because people were breaking into rooms, and there were paedophiles.

I can't live with paedophiles."Edinburgh Live reports Xander also reported grim conditions from his experience at homeless hostels.

EdIndex housing data shows that some individuals can wait as long as 10 years for a council flat. Leaving homeless accommodation means forfeiting your space on the council house waitlist.
