Crissy Rock, 63, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about her own menopausal experience as she prepares to wow audiences in February with her performance in Menopause the Musical 2.
Arriving as a sequel to Menopause the Musical, which has been described as the “ultimate girls’ night out”, the show is set to embark on a six-month tour of the UK and Ireland this Spring with Crissy leading the charge.Crissy, who is probably best known for playing Janey York in ITV’s Benidorm, certainly won’t by shying away from any taboo topics while on tour, covering everything from hot flushes, to memory loss, to how they look naked.
Discussing how the show spoke to her own experiences of the menopause, Crissy said: “My favourite line is when I do this monologue where I say, 'I’ve always been everyone’s earth mother and that everyone’s always come to her for love and happiness…“But when that menopause hit me, I found myself standing in the kitchen with a spatula in my hand, screaming!'“I thought, ‘Oh yeah, been there, done that.' Gone from nought to 60 in seconds.
And it comes from your toenails right up like a lift. You know, like one of those lifts in America that goes 'whoosh'? “You get in bed and you’re like… ‘I’m roasting!’ Everyone else is freezing in balaclavas and you’re screaming, ‘It’s hot!’“‘I’m not shutting the windows!’, ‘But the snow’s coming in!’, ‘I don’t care - get a jumper on!’” she joked.
