Bolton Coroners Court heard on Friday.The Wigan couple had been excited to get away after months spent in lockdown and, on September 17, decided they would hire a car to explore the Greek island.
The pair set off to Issos beach in South Corfu, a popular destination where there were a number of tourists swimming in the sea under the watch of a lifeguard.Known to be a 'fit and healthy man' and a 'strong swimmer' to his loved ones, Mr Tickle decided to go swimming in the sea soon after arriving at the beach - just as he had done on many family holidays, according to evidence read out in court.Mr Tickle's wife, Susan Woodcock, was concerned about her husband swimming out too far but could still see him.
