We may be in 2022, but women are still fighting for basic human rights. Last week, in America the Supreme Court overturned the Roe V Wade ruling.This 1973 legislation protected a person’s right to choose to have an abortion, but now every state can choose their own laws for the medical procedure.

It is particularly devastating as research depicts that restricting access to abortions doesn’t stop them from happening, but instead prevents them taking place safely.

Here, in England, Scotland and Wales women, trans and non-binary people are able to get an abortion up until 24 weeks. In Northern Ireland the limit is 10 weeks, with legal rights to travel to England for the procedure.

While people in the UK may not be directly affected by the law change, it is still difficult for many to comprehend the ruling and what it means for women across the ocean.
