Casualty star Nigel Harman shocked fans of Strictly Come Dancing when it was announced that the actor would not be returning to compete in the quarter finals. The 50 year old pulled out of the show just hours before Saturday's live performance, with reports revealing that he had sustained a rib injury during rehearsals while practising a stunt.

Nigel was paired with professional dancer Katya Jones, and both have expressed their sadness at having to take a step back so close to the finals.

The former EastEnders actor shared what happened with presenter Claudia Winkleman in his first interview following his exit, explaining he was "leaping off a rostrum and was about to be caught by some very handsome men." However, according to Nigel, the leap didn't go to plan. "As I flew I was Peter Pan and as I landed, I was in A&E," he said. "I've done something to my rib and it’s quite painful," Nigel added, while Katya said the situation is "quite hard to talk about it." "I've absolutely loved every moment of us creating magic on a dancefloor," the dancer said before turning to Nigel to say: "I hope you got something out of this that you're going to cherish forever." However, the news of Nigel's exit has appeared to be a relief for some, following claims that the actor would regularly have "mood swings" that led to tension amongst the crew backstage.

Nigel was also spotted not in the best of moods after he previously received a bad score from the judges, which led to him storming off the stage.
