BBC star Katie Smith has stepped down from her early morning show after seven years, telling fans ‘it’s time for a new adventure’.The sports commentator announced her departure from the 5 Live Breakfast in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. "I'm leaving the wonderful 5 Live Breakfast show in a couple of weeks after a brilliant few years of mayhem with Rachel Burden, Rick Edwards, and the amazing producers and editors,” the star penned on the social media site. "I still remember the first time I walked into MediaCity and I knew I had to work there.” Continuing to reflect on her journey with the corporation, Katie wrote: "Fast-forward a few years, and I can't believe how much I've learnt, the people I've met, and, more especially, the places I have been privileged enough to visit." However, the early mornings had been taking a toll on the star, who continued to write: "The morning alarms are brutal, and it's time to have a new adventure - which is the plan for 2025 and beyond." However, she won’t be leaving the station for good, as she informed fans: “I’m so proud I’ll still be doing lots of that for 5 Live Sport, and the BBC, who still bring us together for the big moments better than anyone else.” Alongside her emotional post, the star posted a number of throwback pictures from her time at the station, from winning awards, to covering huge sporting events including the Euros, World Cup and Olympics.

Katie has been a familiar voice on 5Live Breakfast on the weekend, and was part of the BBC team for covering the Paris Olympics earlier this year.

Friends and fans took to the comments of Katie’s post to wish her well in her new venture, as one penned: “You’ll smash whatever is next Katie, always a great listen :)”.
