Silent Witness returned to the BBC as it premiered the first episode of season 28 on Tuesday (7th January). However, the episode left fans dismayed at one of the storylines involving a lonely old man, Benjamin.

It was quite the opening for Silent Witness as the body of an elderly woman was found in a cave by two teenagers. The episode continued to pull on viewers' heartstrings with the introduction of Benjamin, an old man on his own who is wondering where is friend Gloria has got to.

One scene in particular saw cowboy builder Matthew Harris visit Benjamin and quote him £59,000 for home improvements as he told the pensioner he had an appointment booked in to look for damp.

The scam became even more dangerous when he attempted to blackmail the elderly man into signing over the deeds to his house.
