BBC Saturday Kitchen star and iconic restaurateur Russell Norman has died aged 57. The chef was hailed as the "new king of Soho dining" in 2012 and quickly rose to fame for his POLPO chain of restaurants, spin-offs Spuntino and Polpetto, and for inventing small plates dining and helping to bring back the classic Negroni cocktail.

He published four cookbooks, the most of recent of which was just a few weeks ago, and won the Waterstones Book of the Year prize with his first effort, POLPO.His business partner and friend Richard Beatty shared the news of Norman's death on Thursday in a statement today.

He said that his wife and three children were by his side in hospital when he passed away. He said: "It is with the greatest sadness I announce the loss of my best friend Russell Norman.
