Long-serving presenter Garry Richardson is set to leave BBC Radio Four's Today programme this autumn, after 50 years with the corporation, it has been announced.
Richardson will present the sports news on the early morning programme for the last time on September 9, marking exactly 50 years since he first joined the broadcaster as a junior researcher in 1974.
He has been part of the Today programme team since 1981 and also hosted the influential Sportsweek programme on Sunday mornings on BBC Radio 5 Live for two decades until its final edition in September 2019.
Reflecting on his career, Richardson said: "I have had the most wonderful time working for the BBC alongside my heroes from sport and showbusiness." He added: "I'll still be broadcasting from time to time, the only difference will be I won't be setting my alarm for 2.45am and that's a lovely thought." Davie continued: "He has brought wisdom, insight and a smile to every broadcast.
