Following the unexpected axe of fan favourite series Our Flag Meets Death earlier this month, fans of the hit BBC show have banded together to campaign for it’s renewal, with a petition shared online now exceeding 50,000 signatures at the time of writing.The iconic series which was the brain child of Taika Waititi - who is married to singer Rita Ora - ran for two series in total and is set during the golden age of piracy.The show itself follows the misadventures of gentleman-turned-pirate Stede Bonnet and his crew aboard the Revenge and has widely been praised by critics for it’s inclusive LGBTQ+ representation - in fact, it even boasts a score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, clearly showing a firm fanbase.
Following the announcement that the show would not be renewed for a third series, lead star Rhys Darby, who plays Stede, lamented it’s ending on social media as he shared a poignant photo of the entire case alongside the caption: "Us for you, forever...
with love.” Fans too were devastated by the news, as they took to the comments of the post to thank Rhys and the rest of the cast for having created such a wonderful show. “Thank you for being you and giving us characters to remember and to be inspired through,” wrote one fan before adding: “I could take 10 more sessions of OFMD if it meant seeing your character grow and develop. “Now I just have to settle by following your own real-life journey.” Another fan then added: “Love you guys, thank you for everything.
