In recent times, Phil's mental health has taken a downturn, leaving the iconic tough guy grappling with depression and loneliness.
He has also been covertly assisting his family without their knowledge. Phil reconnected with his old mate Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley) over Christmas, with the two men cohabitating and providing mutual support.
However, a struggling Phil is oblivious to the fact that Nigel is living with early onset dementia. During the latest visit to Walford, a despondent Phil found himself entangled in Nigel's plans for a date at The Queen Vic with community centre friend Norma (Angela Curran), who brought along a friend named Livi (Lisa Allen).
