Wimbledon was the place to be seen, but not heard if you were bungling Boris Becker, whose big mouth got him in bother. The 53-year-old tennis star, who won three men’s singles titles at Wimbledon, was ridiculed for “going back to the 50s” after comments he made about a player’s fiancee.

Becker and John Inverdale were commenting for the BBC on Novak Djokovic’s match with Marton Fucsovics. After Fucsovics lost in straight sets, Inverdale, 63, joked about the Hungarian player’s fiancee, Annett Boszormenyi, saying: “If you’re a tennis player, it’s always good to have a partner called Annett.” To which Becker responded: “They do say they have the most beautiful women in Hungary.
