Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was sent off for the first time in his 866-match career after crashing into a fromer Celtic star.

The incident happened in the 18th minute of the Bavarian's hotly contested German Cup last-16 tie at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

Manager Vincent Kompany watched on in despair as the 38-year-old rushed out of his box and missed the ball completely before clattering into former Hoops full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Neuer offered little complaint after the red card was brandished and quickly departed for an early shower, leaving his team with 10 men for over 70 minutes.
