Dame Barbara Windsor realised only one thing would get her on-screen son back on EastEnders. The EastEnders and Carry On legend tragically passed away at the age of 83 after battling Alzheimer’s since 2014.
Barbara and husband Scott Mitchell kept her condition secret until her symptoms rapidly deteriorated in 2018, but she had already filmed her final EastEnders scenes three years before.
Realising she would always be drawn back to the iconic character she had played for 22 years, Barbara pleaded with soap bosses to let Peggy pass away.
Barbara was struggling to learn her lines and realised she would have to give up acting, so made the heartbreaking decision to let Peggy go.
