Baffled Craig Levein says ref Matthew MacDermid was WRONG to award Rangers their first goal at Hampden. The St Johnstone gaffer was gutted after his side's 2-0 victory in the Premier Sports Cup.
They were well in the game against Philippe Clement’s side when Cyriel Dessers put the home side ahead. MacDermid appeared to blow his whistle for a foul by the Nigerian striker on defender Jack Sanders and chalk the goal off.Saints players stopped expecting a free-kick to go in their favour but the whistler then went for a second look on his VAR monitor.
After reviewing it, MacDermid awarded the goal - leaving Levein, his staff and players bamboozled. At full-time, he said: “What the f**k happened there?
Does anybody know? Can anybody help me with it?“I didn’t speak to the referee, what's the point? I've been there a hundred times and I end up getting fined and then doubling my fine and then doubling it again.
