Baby girl dies at property in Oldham as man and woman arrested

A baby died at a property in Oldham on Sunday afternoon (February 9), with a man and a woman arrested and taken into custody.

Officers were called at around 12:56pm to a report concerning the welfare of a baby on Nelson Way, Chadderton. The baby girl, understood to have been just five weeks old, was tragically pronounced dead despite the efforts of paramedics at the scene.

A man, aged 41, and woman, aged 21, have both been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and taken into custody. Officers remained stationed at the property throughout the afternoon following the incident.

Investigations into the death of the baby girl are ongoing. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 12.56pm today (09/02/2025) to Nelson Way, Chadderton to a report concerning the welfare of a baby. "Emergency services attended and despite the best efforts of paramedics, she sadly died.
