Annika Pham L.A.-based Dynamic Television has acquired worldwide rights to the Swedish series “The Pirate Bay,” about the notorious pirate BitTorrent site and its co-founders Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Swartholm. The six-part series, set to go unto production this fall, is being produced by Stockholm and L.A.-based powerhouse B-Reel Films (“Midsommar,” “Before We Die”) for Swedish pubcaster SVT. “I Am Zlatan” helmer Jens Sjögren is directing, from a screenplay by head-writer Piotr Marciniak (“Everything I Can’t Remember”), with Patrik Gyllström (“Agatha Christie’s Hjerson”) serving as episodic writer. The character-driven show turns on Peter, Fredrik and Gottfrid, who ended up creating in 2003 one of the world’s largest BitTorrent indexes as a reaction to big business trying to take control file sharing over the Internet.

In upcoming scenes, Estelle tells Glenda that the Weatherfield franchise Little Big Shotz is up for grabs and she can have it for a cheaper price of £5,000.

Naman Ramachandran Indian filmmaker Subhrajit Mitra’s latest venture “Bandit Queen of Bengal” (aka “Devi Chowdhurani”) will start principal photography in the final quarter of the year. The film is based on Mitra’s own research into the the advent and invasion of the British East India Company in India, the battles of Plassey (1757) and Buxar (1764), the great Bengal famine of 1770, the Sannyasi and Fakir rebellion (1770-77) and Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s 1884 Bengali-language novel “Devi Chowdhurani,” which features a female freedom fighter protagonist. The film will follow the journey of a villager who eventually becomes the first Indian woman freedom fighter. It will also tell the story of the Hindu monks who had no other option but to take up arms against their British colonial rulers to save the country and their people. It was the first armed revolution by the Indians, led by Bhavani Charan Pathak, against the British East India Company. The film will hew close to the novel’s plotline but some 80% of it will be closer to actual history.

Leo D. Sullivan, whose animation of a chugging train graced the opening of television dance party Soul Train for decades, died March 25 in Los Angeles. He was 82 and died of heart failure at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center, his wife Ethelyn Sullivan confirmed.

The Cure have added a handful of new dates to their upcoming tour of North America, bringing their two-month itinerary up to a total of 34 shows.The four new gigs comes as those previously announced in San Diego, Montreal and Atlanta sold out with unprecedented speed; they’ll play second shows in those respective cities on Sunday May 21, Saturday June 17 and Wednesday June 28. The band have also added a night in Portland – where they’ll play at the Moda Centre on Wednesday May 31 – with frontman Robert Smith describing that gig as “an ‘experiment’ to see whether non-transferable tickets are enough protection”. TikTok star Harrison Gilks has died after winning a legion of fans on the TikTok social media app. The Canadian teenager died "peacefully" with his mum, dad and brother by his side on March 30 after landing tens of thousands of subscribers as he attempted to tick off his bucket list. The teen bravely fought a rare form of soft tissue cancer after his diagnosis in November 2020.

Sophia Scorziello editor Leo D. Sullivan, an Emmy-winning pioneer in animation with a career of over 50 years and work on dozens of cartoons, has died. He was 82. Sullivan died March 25 of heart failure at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center. Throughout his career, Sullivan helped bring characters to life through his animation, storyboarding, directing and producing. His work spanned numerous television shows, including “Hey, Hey, Hey, It’s Fat Albert,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “My Little Pony” and “Flash Gordon,” along with companies like Hanna-Barbera, Warner Brothers and Spunbuggy Works. Sullivan contributed to the opening animation on “Soul Train” which premiered in 1971.

Disney’s live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” is on the horizon, and star Halle Bailey is opening up about the intense training she undertook to pull off the film’s underwater sequences.

Emmerdale fans think they have figured out new nanny Nicky's parents after he appeared to "slip up" on Tuesday's episode. Nicky first hit screens in December, where he started working at Home Farm, and it didn't take long until he started a secret and whirlwind romance with Gabby Thomas - even proposing on Monday night. So far, despite Nicky being almost too good to be true, fans have been suspicious over the newcomer and questioned whether he's working with fellow new character, Caleb Milligan, to take down Home Farm.

Emmerdale fans went wild on Wednesday night as Robron stars Danny Miller and Ryan Hawley reunited as they posed for a fun pub snap together. Taking to Instagram, Danny, 32, who played Aaron Dingle until 2021 with a brief return in 2022, posted a picture with Ryan, 37, who played Robert Sugden. Posing in a pub with laptops, Danny wrote: "Great to catch up with @ry_hawley reminiscing about old times and talking about our next chapter" with an eyes emoji.
