A walking group bound together by its love of Ayr United has put its shirt on the first team's success. The Somerset Strollers are one of many success stories to come from the United Football Academy's Community Programme. From small beginnings eight years ago, the group now boasts up to 30 members who meet each week for a walk around the local community. And there's now an extra spring in their step thanks to winning a sponsorship slot on the back of United's new third kit.Stroller Andy McInnes told the Ayrshire Post: "One of our members, John Gemmell, came up with the idea of clubbing together to enter the shirt and shorts draw as we thought it would be a nice way to support the club."Never in a million years did we think we'd come out as a winner.

You couldn't write the script for it."We're just a group of like-minded fans who enjoy a weekly stroll and a bit of banter. We're by no means professional walkers, so nobody should be put off joining!"For us, the best part is the social element and it sums up what the club is all about these days."The chairman, David Smith, is encouraging that feeling of everyone being one big family and it's great to see."The Strollers have members ranging from their mid 20s to legendary fan Jim O'Neil in his late 80s.Andy, 67, added: "There's a great mix and obviously the Ayr United chat tends to flow."My first game was in 1968, so I'm from the Stewart, Malone, Murphy era, which were just great times."We have a great cross-section of people who come along and then it's back to the Hub afterwards."Above all else, the social aspect is fantastic and we'd be delighted to welcome more new faces."
