Ayr Gold Cup day as punters packed the west coast course with the sun shining. And the big meeting kicked off with a bit of surprise as fancied favourite King Of York flopped as 13/2 shot Highland Premiere bravely landed the 1.20pm Microtech Group EBF Nursery Handicap.
Jumped out of the gates by Joe Fanning, the jockey judged the pace bang on with a typically-outstanding ride from the front.
And trainer Mark Johnston made it two from two on as Maydanny (9/2) surged to success to make it a flying start for Fanning.
There was a big price winner in the third race which was the Silver Cup as Staxton rode home at odds of 25/1. And in the last race before the big one it was Nazanin who won as golden girl Hollie Doyle rode to glory in Scotland's.
