Canada after serving in World War II (WWII), spoke highly of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September, 8.Speaking about how Austin Powers, one of Mike’s most notable roles, was inspired by his English parents, talk quickly turned to the Queen, who Mike described as a “great lady”.With his mother serving in the Royal Air Force and his father as an engineer in the British Army during WWII, Mike spoke proudly of both of his parents, going on to say that their generation was his “favourite generation”.As his mother Alice "Bunny" Myers was the same age as the Queen, Mike went on to say that it made the Queen’s death all the more “painful”.Speaking to host Lara Spencer, Mike explained: “That generation is my favourite generation, they are just unbelievable.“Which is why the passing of the Queen was so painful.
I cried like a baby.“I’m still gutted by it. What a great lady.”Mike continued to praise the late monarch highly for her work during WWII, and her involvement in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS).“She stayed in Britain,” Mike continued to say. “During WWII she didn’t run away to Canada, and she was also in the service.“She was the same age as my mother.”The Emmy Award winning actor, who came to prominence on Saturday Night Live, then went on to say that the British monarchy “represents history”.“I grew up in Canada, she is on every dollar, she is in every hockey rink, she’s in every airport and I think she did a great job, there I said it.”Praising the monarch, Mike was then asked if he ever got a chance to come face to face with the Queen during her lifetime, to which he said he didn’t, but he was invited to Buckingham Palace.“I got to Buckingham Palace,” he exclaimed.
