Beneath an ominous orange sky, the Golden Gate Bridge is shrouded in thick smoke amid wildfires in the US that have killed at least 24 people.
Dozens more are missing as the west coast of America battles some of the worst wildfires in the nation’s history. The smoke and ash was so dense by the bridge in San Francisco, California, most of the midday sun was blocked out.
Half a million residents in Oregon, a tenth of the state’s population, are under evacuation orders as hundreds of firefighters struggle to battle more than a dozen huge blazes that are on the verge of joining up.
