Armed police swooped on a car in north Manchester and arrested a man on suspicion of rape and possession of a firearm. Officers stopped the vehicle at the junction of Hallworth Road and Crescent Road in Crumpsall at around 8pm last night (Monday).
Police said the swoop was part of a 'pre-planned operation'. The 40-year-old man was detained and taken into police custody.
He remains there to be questioned by detectives this morning. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Around 8pm last night (9 October 2023), officers stopped a vehicle at the junction of Hallworth Road and Crescent Road in Crumpsall. "This activity formed part of a pre-planned operation relating to a Greater Manchester Police Manchester North investigation.
