Have you ever wondered if you are smarter than an eight year-old? How good are you at your 12 times tables? Pupils in year four will take part in a multiplication tables check in June.

They will be asked 25 questions with only six seconds to each one but how will you do? The check was introduced back in 2019 to ensure that primary school children know their times tables off by heart.

The Government says that knowledge of times tables helps children to solve problems quickly and flexibly. They also say that it helps children to tackle more complex mathematics later on in school, reports Wales Online. Not only will this help them cope with the challenges of maths at secondary school, it will also stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives. "That’s why we are bringing in this new check – to make sure all pupils leave primary school knowing their times tables by heart.
