Anne Heche’s cause of death announced after car crash sparked horror fire

Following the August 5 crash, Anne is said to have donated her organs to up to eight people who needed transplants following her death.

According to TMZ sources, her organs were removed by surgeons in order to be offered as a “gift of life” to others. It is still unclear which organs have been donated by the actress, but surgeons were ready to perform the transplants as soon as Anne had died, NBC reports.

Anne’s family issued a statement shortly before her death explaining that it had "long been her choice to donate her organs and she’s being kept on life support to determine if any are viable".Anne suffered lung damage, burns, and a severe anoxic brain injury, which is caused by a sustained lack of oxygen to the brain.In a statement released on Friday August 12, her family gave an update on the tragic events.The statement read: "It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable."Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit.“More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life's work - especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love."She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light."The family went on to thank the “dedicated staff and wonderful nurses” at the Grossman Burn Centre at West Hills Hospital who tended to the star in her final days.

Immediately following the accident, LAPD spokesman Matthew Cruz said the incident was being looked into as a felony driving under the influence collision.He told PA: "This case is still an active and ongoing investigation.“It is currently in the process of gathering additional evidence; to include final.
