A romance sparked at the Co-operative in Annan decades ago resulted in a diamond day for Malcolm and Jina Currie when they received a special card from King Charles to commemorate their milestone anniversary.
Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Dumfriesshire, Hardip Atwal, called at their Annan home on Thursday to present the couple – now in their 80s – with the card and to congratulate them on their diamond wedding anniversary which marks 60 years of marriage.
And their secret to wedded bliss was revealed by Jina, who said: “I think that more than anything the secret to having such a long lasting and fruitful relationship is patience on both sides.” The happy pair met at the town’s Co-operative where Jina worked in the office and Malcolm drove the mobile shop.
They were married in St Andrew’s Church, Annan, in 1963. Malcolm said: “It is a special occasion and we celebrated with our family at Hetland Hall Hotel and we also have been on holiday in the north of Scotland.”
