Animal lovers build rescue-seal hospital with swimming pool in bungalow garden

Animal lovers Clare and Phillip Boardman have built a hospital for rescue seals – complete with swimming pool – in the garden of their four-bedroom bungalow.They spent £20,000 on the sanctuary at Dunnet Head, in Caithness.The couple serve the seals a special fish soup, feed them around the clock – and Clare, 52, even taught one tiny pup, Glory, to swim because he was terrified of the water.Glory was among 17 seals released so far, with eight more currently in the hospital.

The couple decided to build their seal hospital after helping rescue seals as volunteers for British Divers Marine Life Rescue.Clare, 52, said: “We did a lot of seal rescues and they had to be taken down to Edinburgh.

It’s a long trip for a sick or injured little pup, and a lot of them didn’t make it down. So we just decided we’d build our own.’Clare says seals usually end up at the hospital because they’ve been disturbed by humans.
