Former boxing world champion Amir Khan has issued a desperate plea for peace amid fears protests planned across the UK tonight could descend into violence.

The Bolton-born fighter, 37, took to social media as he urged young people to not 'get caught up in the mess' and that 'we all should stand for peace, that's all that matters'.

He also asked people to 'let the police do what they do best. Look after our streets and look after us'. Tonight (August 7), communities are on high alert possible 'planned unrest' across Greater Manchester.
