An allotment holder told a court of his shock at finding a woman in his shed covered in blood who allegedly pulled her mum's head out of a carrier bag then kissed it.
John Murray said he returned to the shed on his allotment in Ashington, Northumberland, to find family friend 36-year-old Odessa Carey had let herself in.
To his surprise, she appeared to be wiping blood off her arms and hands, jurors at Newcastle Crown Court were told. Mr Murray told jurors Carey, who was wearing a pink onesie and odd socks, was in "good fettle" but kept nodding off.
She then reached for a blue Mackenzie bag and pulled out a head wrapped in a pillow case and towel, kissed it on the forehead and carefully put it back in the bag, he told the court yesterday.
