Tuesday, August 2 is going to be a big day for Rangers in the Champions League. And not just because they travel to Belgium for the first leg of their third qualifying round tie against Jupiler Pro League side Union Saint-Gilloise.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have plenty on his mind that morning as he looks to plot a path to the play off round. And the Ibrox side will discover who their potential opponents are well before they take to the field at the OH Leuven’s Den Dreef Stadium, just outside of Brussels.
Managers and players will always tall you they take one game at a time. But it will be impossible for Rangers to avoid taking note of who they have been drawn against and whether, on paper at least, it’s favourable.
Fans will be looking at budget airlines and plotting the cheapest route to the destination and scrambling for tickets. There will be so much work to do after the draw takes place but all eyes will be on it that morning as they look to take one step closer to the group stage.
