Health Secretary Matt Hancock has sprung a surprise set of restrictions on Covid-19 hotspots - but as has become typical of the Tory government, he was light on detail.
This evening he announced that from midnight, people from different households in Greater Manchester, parts of East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire are banned from meeting each other indoors.
But it immediately caused confusion about whether this just applies to domestic settings or whether shops, pubs and restaurants would be forced to close.
Mirror Online understands that businesses will not be required to close, but this has not been confirmed by the government. Mr Hancock said "immediate action" was needed to keep people safe.
