A little more grey and a little less fresh-faced, Ali MacGraw, 81, and Ryan O’Neal, 79, were reunited to celebrate the golden anniversary of one of Hollywood’s greatest-ever weepies.

And Ryan, who has been married twice, said: “It’s been a fast 50. I don’t have those relationships with my wives! The chemistry has managed to sustain itself for 50 years.” Love Story was a surprise box office hit in 1970, making almost £100 million and landing seven Oscar nominations.

The story, which follows the romance between rich Ivy League student Oliver and working class Jen, made overnight stars of its leads.
