Shoppers have been left puzzled after popular food items vanished from supermarket shelves across the country. Many have been on the hunt for German pepperoni and German salami, but have found no stock either in-store or online.One customer scoured Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi and Lidl in Hartlepool on Thursday, only to find she couldn't purchase either item.

She was on the hunt for it after Morrisons pizza counter did not have any to add to their freshly made pizzas.On social media, several others queried why these items were out of stock, reports Lancs Live.

Samantha asked Tesco: "Can you tell me why online shopping I haven't been able to get pepperoni, German salami or puree for weeks now please?"Stuart posed a similar question to the same supermarket: "Hi, all the German meats (specifically peppered salami) have disappeared from your north Essex stores.

Is this permanent?"Lele questioned Lidl: "What happened to all your German salami. Not a single packet on the shelves. Not just this week, not just in one store."They added: "Both Teignmouth and Kingsteignton.
