Aldi and Tesco issue urgent warning to anyone who buys their fruit and veg

Two supermarket giants - Aldi and Tesco - have both sent out an urgent warning to people who have bought their fruit and veg.

The retailers are urging people to take extra precautions and wash any fruit and veg before consuming it, over fears it could have been contaminated by a Saharan desert dust cloud. *Shouts DUST in Little Britain * READ MORE : Martin Lewis says we should take a photo in our homes today to reduce energy bills In March, Spanish authorities issued "extremely poor air quality ratings" for a large band of the country after a mass of hot air from the Sahara dumped dust after crossing the Mediterranean.

Now Tesco has said the dust has affected some of its Spanish crops. It has posted a notice on its website urging people to wash produce before eating.

It said: "Due to the recent winds from the Sahara Desert, a small amount of dust has settled on our Spanish crops. Please ensure you wash your fruit and veg products before enjoying.
