Akon and T.I. lead tributes to 'cultural icon' DMX after his death aged 50

Tributes have been paid to late rap star, DMX, who has died aged 50. DMX - real name Earl Simmons - went into cardiac arrest earlier this month and was rushed to White Plains Hospital, north of New York City.

Lawyer Murray Richman was previously unable to confirm reports that DMX had suffered a drug overdose, and said he didn't know what exactly had caused the heart attack.

And now, famous faces as well as fans touched by his music have shared their thoughts about the man. Oscar nominee Viola Davis shared a smiling picture of the star and wrote: "RIP DMX.

I pray for the comfort of your children and loved ones." DMX's fellow rapper T.I. tweeted: "Rest In Peace to a cultural icon.
