A change to airport liquid security rules has been delayed by a year after several major airports - including Manchester Airport - are unable to meet the deadline to install new scanning technology.
The Government initially set a deadline of June 1 2024, but many airports will not have the technology in place in time. With the new scanners passengers would be able to pass through airport security with containers holding up to two litres of liquid in their hand luggage as they produce more detailed images.
At airports which have not put them in place, the limit remains 100ml and containers must be put in clear plastic bags. The new technology would also end the need for laptops and tablets to be removed from hand luggage.
In August 2019 an initial deadline of December 2022 for most major airports to deploy the scanners was set by then-prime minister Boris Johnson.
