Air ambulance drafted in as firefighters rescue trapped car crash victim on East Kilbride back road

A casualty was airlifted to hospital last night after a horror car crash on an East Kilbride back road.The vehicle had smashed into a tree on Crookedshields Road, in Nerston, throwing four people from the car and trapping another.Multiple emergency service crews rushed to the scene just before 9pm.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

The injuries are not yet known. The road was closed for several hours while investigations took place. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.56pm on Sunday, June 2, to reports of a road traffic collision on Crookedshields Road in East Kilbride. “Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene and on arrival firefighters found that a car had collided with a tree.

Four casualties had been thrown from the vehicle, whilst one person remained trapped. “Firefighters removed the trapped casualty from the vehicle, and they were transferred to hospital by Air Ambulance.
