Black Lightning actress Charlbi Dean has died at the age of 32 following a sudden illness.The star died in New York on Monday 29 August, however an exact cause of death has not been confirmed.The up and coming star has a starring role in this year’s dark comedy The Triangle of Sadness, where she played Yaya, one half of a model couple who are invited on a trip on a yacht for the ultra-wealthy, before things head downhill.
In a recent Instagram post, Charlbi’s partner Luke Volker wrote how “proud” he was of his girlfriend for the role in the Palme D’Or winning film.
Posting a photo of his girlfriend at the film premiere, he wrote: “3 years later!! Against all odds, almost impossible obstacles, they pulled it off! "The film is a masterpiece from top to bottom everyone did a spectacularly job getting it done.
I couldn’t be more proud of you my love.” Spending her childhood in Cape Town, Charlbi got an early start in showbiz, signing with a modelling agency at 12 and making her film debut in South African film Spud alongside singer Troye Sivan.
