An abusive rapist told a court that if his victim died tomorrow, he would ‘celebrate’. Ben Fitton put his thumbs up as a judge read out the vile comments he had made towards a probation officer, including that his victim was a ‘horrible, life-ruining b****’.
Jailing him for 18 years, Judge Peter Horgan: “Your attitude towards females was a concern for the officer and there is a complete and utter lack of remorse. “You are assessed as highly likely to commit further domestic violence and show a high risk of causing harm to future partners.” Fitton, 33, was found guilty after a five-week trial of two offences of rape, non-fatal strangulation, coercive and controlling behaviour and causing grievous bodily harm.
At Manchester Crown Court, Fitton nodded as prosecutor Nicola Carroll detailed the facts of the case. The court heard that Fitton had been violent towards the woman, isolated her from friends and family, humiliated her and made various threats towards her and her family over a number of years.
The behaviour resulted in her trying to take her own life, Ms Carroll said. During one row, Fitton forcefully shoved her to the ground.
