A bully who harassed his Police Scotland officer wife so badly she took an overseas job with Interpol has been spared jail for the abuse.
Businessman Russell Laing hounded Detective Inspector Paula Nicholas, who applied for the international crime busting job to escape him.
He could have been jailed for the abuse when he returned to the dock at Greenock Sheriff Court last week to learn his fate. But he was placed on a Community Payback Order as a direct alternative to custody, and placed on a Non-Harassment Order.
The breast cancer survivor told his trial she applied to Interpol because of her "insecure and jealous" husband's harassment.
