Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster to Replace Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford in Broadway’s ‘Sweeney Todd’

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster are heading to Fleet Street. The rialto royalty are joining the cast of Broadway‘s “Sweeney Todd” revival as the Demon Barber and his parter-in-crime (literally) Mrs.

Lovett. Tveit and Foster will begin performances on Feb. 9, 2024, and will leave the show 12 weeks later on May 5. They are replacing Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford, who were Tony-nominated for their roles and will take their final bows on Jan.

14. Thomas Kail (“Hamilton”) directed the latest revival of Stephen Sondheim’s macabre musical, which opened at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre earlier in 2023.

It’s been well received and well attended on Broadway, regularly playing to full crowds and winning two Tony Awards. “Sweeney Todd” tells the tale of a vengeful barber and a resourceful pie shop owner.
