'A unique opportunity for residents to get closure to nature'

A municipal golf course in Flixton which closed seven years ago is set to become a green enclave. Following consultation with the Flixton Green for All group, what was the William Wroe Golf course will be known as William Wroe Meadows.

Trafford’s executive member for economy and regeneration Coun Liz Patel has described the scheme as 'a unique opportunity for an urban green space to allow our residents to get closer to nature.' Trafford council acquired the site in 2018 and it later became protected when it was given Fields in Trust status.

A year ago, The Environmental Partnership, funded by Natural England has carried out work at Flixton as part of their ‘Lost Wetlands’ programme, co-ordinated by City of Trees.

A report to the council’s executive said that since the closure of the golf course, a basic maintenance regime as been carried out, including mowing access routes.
