A new ‘Mummy’ film is in the works from ‘Evil Dead Rise’ director

The Mummy franchise is in the works and will be helmed by Evil Dead Rise‘s Lee Cronin.Per The Hollywood Reporter, Cronin will write and direct the upcoming film, which has yet to receive a title but has scored an April 17, 2026 release date.

A cast has yet to be attached to the film.Cronin said of the upcoming reboot in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter: “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before.

I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”It is currently unknown if Cronin’s adaptation will be a one-off film or if it will kick off a new franchise for the series.Cronin’s take on The Mummy will be the third iteration to date.

The franchise first kicked off with Stephen Sommers’ 1999 The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser. Fraser led a trilogy of film before it was rebooted in 2017 to star Tom Cruise.The Mummy (2017) scored a two-star review, with Larry Bartleet writing for NME: “Cruise brings nothing to the film other than his competence in the many action sequences; you wouldn’t buy his ‘goofy’ moments if they came with a free trip to Cairo.
