A Hamilton school pupil scoops top prize for a council road safety competition

A primary school pupil from Hamilton has won the top prize in the council’s annual road safety calendar competition.Christopher Agnew, a P6 pupil at St Mary’s in the town, created the slogan “cross where you can be seen, not in between”.His winning entry also features a drawing which illustrates the dangers of crossing in between park cars.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Not only do they block the view of oncoming traffic for pedestrians, but it is also difficult for a pedestrian to be seen by the driver.

There is also the risk that the parked vehicle may move forward or reverse.”Christopher’s winning entry was chosen from 3,133 drawings received from 100 schools across the area.His illustration has been featured on the road safety calendar for 2023, which has been handed out to schools and offices across the area.Chairman of the council’s community and enterprise
