A cry of 'God save the Queen' before Rita drops her shopping and sobs in the street - Manchester in mourning following death of Queen Elizabeth

"God save the Queen," a voice cries out in Exchange Square seconds after the official announcement that Queen Elizabeth II had died at Balmoral, surrounded by her family.

At Manchester Cathedral, the St George's flag was lowered, while advertising boards throughout the city centre were replaced with photographs of Her Majesty, with the caption '1926-2022'.

It was only through these boards that some discovered the 96-year-old Monarch had passed away.
