Abigail Lee Chazz Palminteri‘s “A Bronx Tale: One Man Show,” the autobiographical stage play that inspired the 1993 movie starring Palminteri and Robert De Niro, has been acquired by Tribeca Films for global distribution.
The filmed version of the one-man show will play in select theaters and be available through video on demand starting Jan. 28. “A Bronx Tale,” which first premiered in Los Angeles in the late 1980s, features Palminteri playing 18 characters.
De Niro also directed the 1993 film adaptation, which Palminteri wrote. “’A Bronx Tale’ is woven into the fabric of Tribeca,” Jane Rosenthal, the Tribeca Enterprises CEO who also produced the film adaptation, said in a statement.
She co-founded the company with De Niro. “It’s only fitting that the film adaptation of Chazz’s live one-man show will reach a new, younger audience 35 years after making its stage debut as the latest Tribeca Films title.” Palminteri based “A Bronx Tale” on his own experience growing up in the Bronx in the 1960s.
