Aldi shoppers can now get their hands on a pack of hot drinks for under £1 that could help improve their sleep quality, thanks to a secret ingredient that experts say can aid rest.Their new Mokate sachets, spotted in the middle aisle, come in two versions, but only one contains magnesium.The Milky with Magnesium pack, priced at 99p, includes 10 sachets of instant hot chocolate that can be made with hot water or milk for a creamier treat.
Magnesium is a favourite among celebrities like Taylor Swift. In a 2019 interview with Elle, she said she takes magnesium for "muscle health and energy." The NHS says that magnesium can help with sleep, and foods rich in magnesium include wholemeal bread, brown rice, spinach, and avocados.The mineral also plays a crucial role in producing hormones vital for bone health.
The recommended daily intake of magnesium varies, with men needing 300mg and women needing 270mg. Each sachet of the drink provides a 56.3mg boost, contributing to the NHS-recommended daily amount.
However, be careful not to overdose, as more than 400mg a day can lead to side effects like diarrhoea. According to the Sleep Foundation, magnesium can help you sleep for longer, improve sleep quality, and reduce fatigue.
