Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Celtic moved them a staggering 19 points ahead of their rivals. Steven Gerrard’s side made it three derby wins on the spin thanks to Callum McGregor’s own goal after Nir Bitton was sent off for the Hoops for a challenge on Alfredo Morelos.
It leaves Neil Lennon’s men, who still have three games in hand, with a mountain to climb in their quest for an historic 10th consecutive league title.
Celtic had dominated until referee Bobby Madden showed Bitton a straight red card just after the hour but were denied by the outstanding Allan McGregor and later made to pay by the only goal of the game.
The victory maintained Rangers’ perfect home record in the league with 11 wins as Celtic suffered their first away domestic defeat in more than a year.
