36th Ayr Concert Series to begin next month at Ayr Town Hall

Ayr Arts Guild are bringing the 36th Ayr Concert Series from next month with four concerts to be staged at Ayr Town Hall. Free tickets will be made available to 100 young musicians and a parent or carer through the South Ayrshire Instrumental Music Service as part of the series.Two concerts will be performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as well as one each from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of Scottish Opera.Staged between October and February, the series is supported by funding from Destination South Ayrshire.On Wednesday, October 9, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra opens the series with Baroque Inspirations and principal conductor Maxim Emelyanychev as soloist on harpsichord.The programme consists of Poulenc's Concerto Champetre; Stravinsky's Suite Pulcinella; Vivaldi's Concerto in D minor; and Rameau's Suite Les Boreades.Then, on Thursday, December 19, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra brings their popular programme of Christmas Classics with Jamie MacDougall, singer and presenter, and conductor Ben Palmer.On Friday, January 3, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra returns with their New Year Gala concert which includes the Radetsky March and Blue Danube, plus jazzy numbers from Bernstein's Wonderful Town and timeless hits from the Great American Songbook.Joanna Carneiro, conductor, will be joined by Polish-American soprano Magdalena Kuzma.Rounding off the series will be the Orchestra of Scottish Opera on Friday, February 14, with music from Wagner's Meistersinger and Siegrried Idyll conducted by Gabriella Teychenne and, after the interval, Bruckner's Symphony No.
