Neil McCann reckons it was a Gorgie evening dominated by shocking ref decisions - but the only thing that surprised him was that Lawrence Shankland DIDN'T take Hearts' penalty.Celtic missed the chance to move back to the top of the Premiership after falling to a 2-0 defeat at Tynecastle.

Adam Idah had the perfect opportunity to put his side in front from the penalty spot after Jambos full back Alex Cochrane had fouled South Korean midfielder Yang Hyeon-jun, only to see his feeble spot kick easily saved by Zander Clark. The game was then swung heavily in favour of the home side on 16 minutes, when VAR opted to step in and hand Yang a straight red card for a high boot on Cochrane - despite match referee Dom Robertson initially branding a yellow card.

Matters were made worse for the champions two minutes before half-time when Tomoki Iwata was penalised for a handball inside the penalty area which Hearts man Jorge Grant duly converted.Talisman Shankland then wrapped up the points 11 minutes into the second half with a fine finish in the box to extend Hearts' lead in third place over nearest rivals St Mirren to 13 points.

Pundit McCann was full of praise for his former team's display but admits he can see why both Jambos boss Steven Naismith and Hoops gaffer Brendan Rodgers were left baffled by some of the decisions made in the first half.Speaking on Sportscene, he said: "I can understand why Brendan is upset but also why Steven Naismith is as well." Speaking on the Hearts penalty, he said: "I think Yang gets across but that he actually generates the contact with Cochrane.
