Danny Boyle is working on a trilogy of movies as the follow-up to his 2002 zombie film 28 Days Later and he’s teasing star Cillian Murphy‘s return to the franchise. Cillian, who recently won an Oscar for Oppenheimer, starred in the first movie and fans thought he’d be in the upcoming 28 Years Later, though that theory was shot down.
While appearing at 2025 CinemaCon, Danny teased that Cillian could possibly be seen in one of the other upcoming films. “Like all good things in life, you may have to wait a little while for him to make his appearance,” he said on stage.
28 Years Later, directed by Danny, will be released on June 20. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has already been filmed with director Nia DaCosta and it is being released in January 2026.
Another film, set to be directed by Danny, is in the works though he said at CinemaCon that there isn’t funding yet for the movie.
